Chris Pirillo: When Will 4GB of RAM Be Not Be Enough?

chris_screen

By Chris Pirillo

The Lockergnome community was recently asked when we feel that 4GB of RAM just won’t be “enough” for our machines. As of now, there are very few people who need more than this, even though we all like to think we do. If you think back to when Windows XP was released, the minimum requirement to install was 64MB of RAM. Compare that to Vista or Windows 7 – or any other software on the market today. Most of it will require you to have at least 1 or 2GB of memory. So – when will we see the day where 4GB isn’t enough anymore?

Chris Pirillo: SSD vs Traditional Hard Drives

chris_screen

By Chris Pirillo

Over on our popular questions and answers site Lockergnome.net, bcgocubs asked how a computer will benefit when using an SSD. Also, they would like to know what everyone’s general opinions are regarding solid state drives vs traditional hard drives. A traditional hard drive has moving parts, but is quite inexpensive compared to an SSD. The solid-state drive is just that: suspended in a solid state with no moving parts. It may be more expensive to buy one of these, but many people are starting to believe that they are much better for your computer. What are your thoughts?

Chris Pirillo: Portable Keyboard Fits in Your Pocket

chris_screen

By Chris Pirillo

If you’re someone who wants a physical keyboard to use with your device, you might want to look at the Magic-Pro. It’s a full keyboard with a touchpad that actually rotates and works in either direction. It’s one of the only pieces of hardware that’s able to do that. It connects by way of a 2.4 GHz wireless network and will fit in your pocket!

Chris Pirillo: What is Bloatware?

chris_screen

By Chris Pirillo

A caller the other night asked simply: “What is Bloatware?” That’s actually an easy one to answer! Bloatware is when you have a piece of software that should be a certain size. However, due to several unnecessary things being added in, the size of the software increases dramatically. Heck, sometimes companies add so much crap in that the original software ends up being buggy and laggy.

Chris Pirillo: How to Clean Text

chris_screen

By Chris Pirillo

The community has asked me to do more videos about software. The biggest challenge is to find titles that most people may not have heard of. I also try to find things that are affordable and cross-platform. The other day, I stumbled across this software which is free – and cross-platform. What does it do? Perhaps the title of this video will help you figure that out! CleanHaven will clean up your text.

Chris Pirillo: How Many USB Devices Do You Have?

chris_screen

By Chris Pirillo

I love USB. I love the ports, the devices and the hubs. The problem with hubs, though, is that most of them top out at only seven little spots to plug things into. I have SO many USB devices. How the heck am I ever going to plug them all in at once? How many USB devices do you have? List them all in the comments thread and let’s see who has what! Whoever has the most (and can PROVE it with a picture of them all together at once) will win my existing USB hub!

Chris Pirillo: Should You Quit Facebook?

chris_screen

By Chris Pirillo

Are you leaving Facebook? With all of the concern over privacy lately, many people are choosing to close their accounts. Others are educating themselves with the changes Facebook has made and making the best choices for their profile pages. Still more people are clueless… they don’t realize what is being shared and with whom. They have no idea how to fix this problem once they do learn of it. They just keep going along with their heads in the sand, and hope for the best. This isn’t the way things should be, folks. You shouldn’t have to be so afraid of what the wrong person might see. The fact is, if you put something online then someone will see it. I have come up with the perfect two-step plan to help solve this problem.

Chris Pirillo Video: How to Convert Video

chris_screen

I was rummaging through old boxes the other day, and came across several MiniDV tapes. These are pretty important tapes. For instance, I have Wil Wheaton’s keynote from Gnomedex 4 back in Lake Tahoe. Another is Steve Wozniak from the same conference! If I had the proper equipment, I could hook it up to my computer, transfer the videos and convert them myself. That’s very time intensive, though. I need to find someone whom I know and can trust with these tapes to convert them for me. I remembered that Pixorial sent me a review code, so I decided to check that out.

Chris Pirillo Video: Skype Phone

chris_screen

There are hundreds – if not thousands – of services that allow you to chat in real time. The one that tends to rule the roost is Skype. Nearly everyone seems to have a Skype account these days. Let’s say you have a Skype account, but you’re traveling. Yet, you still want to get ahold of your contacts without having to pay a lot of money to do so. What you need is a device that allows you to access your Skype account over Wi-Fi, instead of using a computer!

Chris Pirillo Video: How to Convert Cassettes to MP3

chris_screen

One of the first pieces of hardware I ever remember lusting after was a cassette player. I was pretty young back then, and a cassette player was innovative! As I got a little older, making “mix tapes” for girls you liked was all the rage. I enjoyed being able to record things, and play them back. These days, we take audio and video recording for granted. Back then… it was really high tech stuff!

I still have several of my old cassettes. I want to start archiving those memories into MP3 format, so that I can save them. There’s a few different ways that you can accomplish this, using various pieces of hardware. The folks at ThinkGeeksent me something that will help me do this easily…

Chris Pirillo Video: How to Install Your Favorite Windows Software

chris_screen

The easiest ways to get programs these days is to download them. When I was getting started with software, you had to actually go to a store and buy them. The Internet didn’t really even exist back then! There’s software available for any platform these days, but this video is all about Windows… and the ease with which you can install programs using Ninite.
