Ransomware Infects Texas Hospital, Potentially Compromising Patient Data

Texas Hospital Suffers Ransomware Attack – Leaving Patients Exposed

The Altus Baytown Hospital, located in Baytown, Texas was hit with ransomware in early September.  One week after the infection, hospital officials notified patients their data may be compromised.  The investigation following the malicious infection confirmed hackers accessed patient files during the cyber attack.  However, it does not appear any of that information has been compromised, as it is hospital policy to encrypt personal data of patients to avoid data loss.  The hospital does still encourage impacted patients to watch their account for any fraudulent activity and report it immediately if found.

The exact ransomware variant and the ransom demands made have not been released.
