Ransomware Attack Leaves Kansas County Government Without Computer Access

Hackers Target Butler County for Ransomware Attack

Over the weekend the Butler County office, located in El Dorado Kansas, with hit a ransomware attack.  The variant has not been disclosed, nor has the ransom demand.  Although the county offices remain open, their computers remain inaccessible due to their systems being encrypted with ransomware.  Butler County is doing everything they can to meet the needs of its citizens; however, everything is being done via paper and pen.

County officials reported they are working with law enforcement officials and a third-party investigative team to regain access to their systems.  It is unclear how successful these attempts are, or if the county has adequate backup files to return their systems to an operational state.
