Chris Pirillo: Are Tablet Computers a Fad?

Some people got very upset at me when I said the iPad, and even the iPhone is a computer. They are certainly more powerful than my first computer.

The tablet market is heating up right now, but in order for Apple’s competitors to stay in the market with any success, manufacturers need to innovate and create a cohesive user experience. Competition would be very healthy for the tablet market in the long run.

  1. I know this is not a popular opinion, but I certainly HOPE the tablet PC does not become the primary computer medium. I may eventually purchase a tablet, or perhaps a smart phone, but I can’t stand the thought of doing away with my keyboard/mouse-based laptop, which itself has a “touchpad”. I disabled that “feature” very early on following purchase.

  2. The only problem I see is all the nasty fingerprints and scratches on these devices. Who wants to use something that is always dirty?
