  1. The change to Vista Home Premium and problems with IE sucks big time. After a couple of very frustrating years, I bought IOBIT Advanced System Care-Pro through PC Pitstop Free downloads. Used their full perpestive for optimizing, speeding up utilities/tools. Made a restore copy & point before the changes. Also Dumped most of the frills in EI, made it simple and basic, reduced alot of the unecessary startup crap and installed Google Chrome and made it my default browser. Now I enjoy my HP desktop, as it’s unclutered, simple, basic and fast. Lesson learned here, is the more bells and whistles you have on startup, desktop, and EI, expect all this junk to really slow down the system and also give you problems.

  2. I had win vista on my laptop. I started using Mozilla Firefox browser and it is faster than IE8. Download it I believe you’ll see the differences in speed. Now I have win 7 and I still use Mozilla Firefox as my browser.

  3. Oh my, I want to do the google chrom thing but I am afraid after reading all the above. Ohly a couple said it helped. guess I can just uninstall in in programs, features I gathered. I am going to research lobit system and firefox since Iknow nothing about what they do or potential problems. actually if anyone can save me time, plese respond with your experience and what they do. thanks all

  4. Chris,
Rarely do I submit comments, never unless they are helpful and beneficial to others. Holy COW Chris you certainly made my day, week, month, and more. What a difference! Personally, hate to admit it but must, I like IE. Yeah, I know… but I do. Putting up with the slug and all. This download made a huge difference for me and I appreciate you sharing it. Will keep watching you for more. Thanks Again, Sally

  5. Chris is totally full of baloney about google chrome i had it 24 hours and got rid of it…………..poor info from Chris he should know better

  6. Thanks for the info, Sho. IE back up to speed. One thing I do before shutting down IE is to clean the temp & history. I also run DiskCleanup regularly and defragment daily with Diskeeper.

  7. I love reading people saying IE crashed their system. Obviously you have no idea how browsers work. If you think it did there is probably a reason and was probably cause by operator error. I use both IE and FF and have NEVER had problems, other than IE being an idiot like it is but FF is not perfect either. I had an issue with it 2 months back, i had to uninstall and reinstall. Nothing is perfect on computers.

  8. Hi Sho, thanks for that advice. However, like Ron Pollitt above, I’d prefer to remove/uninstall it if I can? Has anyone any advice on how this can be acomplished?

    Thanks

  9. Well Chris no joy for me. I have just installed Windows 7. Saw your advice about Google Chrome Frame, decided to try it. IE 8 stopped working. Whenever I tried to open any web page I got a screen saying IE8 had stopped working. Went to Programs and features, uninstalled Google Frame. All is working again. Any advice???

  10. So how much faster do pages load with Google Chrome Frame as compared to without it? One tenth of a second instead of a full second? Two seconds instead of 3 or 4 seconds? Five minutes instead of 15 minutes??? Sorry, but a couple of seconds here and there really don’t mean that much to me.

  11. guss, I doubt that Norton was causing your daughter system to crash. If she was using the latest version (which, if you have an update to date virus definitions subscription, you automatically have a right to!), those crashes shouldn’t have been coming from Norton.

Now, the memory and ‘bloated rubbish’… yeah, that can be a problem and why your daughters system was crashing. Every year or so, I have to go through the registry and manually delete a bunch of ‘non-necessary’ keys because the software that they were from has been uninstalled or they are from OLD version of the software.
Nero is a big culprit for the latter situation. Everytime I upgrade to a new version of Nero, there are TONS of registry entries that Baku says aren’t necessary in the slightest.

  12. After we upgraded to IE8 here at work, no one really noticed much change. . .except for me. Needless to say I was less than impressed. We were eventually able to get it to stop crashing every other time I tried opening a new tab, but it still seemed to run sluggish and since I handle our web marketing and such I live on the internet at work. To say I was frustrated doesn’t even begin to cover it!

After installing the add-on I don’t notice an improvement on every web page, but on the ones I do it is a significant improvement. It has made workiing with IE8 more livable.

Thanks so much for this tip, I absolutely love it!

  13. Hi Guss, In my case the system on this desk top has been operating just fine right up to and until I attempted to install that plugin. I’m not realy sure of the relevence of your comments, if Chris Pirillo had suggested that in addition to his recommened plugin we should make all of the additional software changes that you mention, I would not have given it another thought. I am well aware that there are many who say, sling out everything MS and go “Iobit system care, AVG free, firefox, Ubuntu, Opera”, etc, etc and I’m not suggesting that you’re all wrong about that. However, that’s not my choice. I simply tried to take advantage of the “BETTER” IE experience that Chris promised us and got bit in the butt for my troubles. And now like others who have commented before me, I have a slower sytem & IE? What I don’t need is advice to dump MS/Widows/IE atc. What I do need is the advice that I requested in my last post, which will get me back to a situation I was not exactly unhappy with before being tempted to try Cris’s suggestion.

By the way, as a point of interest, I moved away from AVG Free after very many years(started at V2), as a very satisfied user when V8 became too bloated for my liking!

    Best regards

  14. As for IE crashing systems: maybe you’re blaming the wrong thing, we had the same problem with my daughter’s laptop to where it was unbootable and overheated. Used Linux CD to boot & save data, then reset to factory settings, added memory and most importantly got rid of the bloated rubbish that runs on a normal machine (Norton and all the spyware / registry stuff ) Installed Iobit system care and AVG free and the little Acer has been fast and stable on IE7&8 and Firefox for 2 yrs. Mine did the boot crash thing as well; I put in Ubuntu CD, clicked ‘use entire space’, added Opera and never looked back.

  15. Just to let you know – I’m a Firefox fan and have touted it to all family and friends as THE most secure browser to run, speaking from experience, since Microsoft Explorer has crashed my laptop 5 times.

  16. I wish I knew what he was talking about but as I am deaf and no-one thought a deaf person would find this and others like it interesting I’ll just have to keep teaching myself security and optimisation. I wish ALL videos had subtitles – probably 50 years before that happens….

  17. The fact is that Internet Explorer is just having a coat of paint put on a decaying house with this plugin. What Microsoft need to do is to DROP their rendering engine and simply adopt Webkit’s! That is the BEST OPTION, period and done with.

As to Microsoft saying this is a security risk…… I DON’T THINK SO! Sounds like Microsoft is trying to BS people into not installing this with ‘FUD’.

I just installed it and NO warning came up, and it actually did make pages run much faster.

  18. Hi Cris,

Just tried to install this recommended plugin, (XP/SP3/IE8). When installation almost or fully completed, coudn’t tell because at that point my system suffered a BSOD crash? When rebooted it’s running at snailpace, Outlook took an age to install and this web page took almost a full 2 minutes to load from the link within the PC PitStop’s e-mail?

So, How do I find out if the the pugin is installed, If so how do I get rid of it and how do I reverse what ever it has done to my OS?

    Thanks!
