Definitely look at the Asus.17 " with t7700 core duo 4 gig ram. Best notebook i've ever owned…old fart first PC was an Atari 400…the Asus screams running win vista ultimate….1.5 yrs of trouble free operation. Agree on the Toysheebas…worst on my list. '

I have a 17" HP dv7 and it has been by far the worst computer I have ever owned. It is possible I got that one lemon in the bunch. Next time it is going to be an Acer, although I would definitely give Assus a look.

Isn't it interesting that there is so much variability in quality of experience with various notebooks for Windows?
What is a n informed Windows user to do?
I would suggest: buy a MacBOOK. They work and there is essentially no virus worry and you can still use a Windows operating system if you need to

I'm surprised there are no Acers or Lenovo's at the top. Granted, Lenovo are far from cheap but in my view, there's a reason why they're more expensive than simalar spec'd machines that are cheaper.

Although Acers are not the best built, they definately give good bang for the buck.

The biggest surprise to me is Dell being in the top 10, about 10 years ago, their desktops were excellent, but their laptops (unless you go to the real high end of their market) are very flimsy and poorly built, which I guess is OK as long as you don't intend to carry it about.

I've had a couple of Toshiba's and both performed well,(Portege A200 & Satellite A200). Then I found
Asus. My M51V outshines both of them. I really
think Asus should be in there somewhere.

I am shocked that no ACER laptops make it into this listing. I use 7 of the top of the range Aspire 83xx series for mobile video Discotheque work and these machines with 1Tb internal storage, 6 speakers and 18 inch screen pack a powerful punch giving very good value for money!

I have a 17" HP dv9933nr wiht 4GB memory and a 350GB hard drive that has been flawless, except for the built in Web Cam mics. Had to go to HP site to get them working. I would not hessitate to buy another.

The guy that is bad mouthing HP computers must not use one. Dell is the Joke. I have many student at our College that have Dell computers and all but one has had a multitude of serious issues that I have had to help them resolve (thank god for my Engineering and IT backgrounds).

I own the new MacBook Pro 13 inch notebook. This outperforms any other notebook I have used. (including HP, Dell and Toshiba) All of the top ten have issues that I have never run into using the Mac. Mac=Superb.
