What that statement ("free download") means is that it doesn't cost you any money to download and try the program. However, using the program beyond the trial period *does* costs money. It's called "shareware".

    3. Malfunction Says:

The 7000 Free Downloads link now takes people to a gateway to the "Microsoft Store" where one can purchase all sorts of Microsoft products.

    4. rob Says:

what a crock of …. ! this link simply takes you to Microsoft Store – where nothing is free!

    5. Dee Says:

It looks like prior comments did not buy, but I did and in a year was not able to get past the buy now screen. Wasted money and a lot of time thinking that maybe I might get the action that I paid for.

    6. Don Says:

"Windows Marketplace has transitioned from an ecommerce site to a reference site. You will find links to sites such as Microsoft Store, Windows Vista® Compatibility Center, and other destinations with cool and compatible software, hardware and devices that support Microsoft® platforms."

Given this change, the free downloads are no longer accessible.
There are still some free downloads available through the Digital Locker.

    7. john smith Says:
